Am I the only one who wrote the same character for years without realizing it?
I was cleaning out my old notebooks from college in Austin and saw the same 'brooding guy with a leather jacket' in every single story. Anyone else get stuck in a character rut like that?

Oh man, is that ever a familiar feeling? I did the exact same thing with a "quiet girl who watches from the window" for a solid decade. It was my go-to, and I never even noticed until a friend pointed it out. Murray.robert asking what made you switch is the real question, because for me it took reading a totally different kind of book to break the habit. You just get so comfortable with a certain voice that it becomes the only one you hear. Finding a new favorite author finally shook me out of that loop.

It's like a default setting, lol. My early stuff was all moody detectives in raincoats.
