My 100th writing prompt left me staring at the wall

Tried the 'object speaks back' prompt for the 100th time last night. Got 3 paragraphs in before my lamp started arguing with my coffee mug and I closed the doc. Learned that forcing a twist on a worn prompt just makes it worse. Anyone else got a prompt they've hit a wall on?

I did the same thing with the "letter to your younger self" prompt. Must have started it six times and every version turned into the same sappy mess. I finally just wrote the letter as an argument instead, like my younger self wrote back and told present me to get lost. That one worked. Sometimes the prompt isn't the problem, it's that we keep reaching for the same move because it worked once. Give the object prompt a rest for a few months and it might surprise you.
