Remember when we all just wrote 'a man walks into a bar' jokes?

I was stuck on a story for a week, trying to make a perfect first line. My friend from the Tuesday writing group in Tacoma said, 'Just write the second line first.' I tried it, and after three attempts, I had a whole page. Starting with 'He knew he shouldn't have come back' forced me to figure out the 'why' immediately. It broke the blank page freeze every time. Has anyone else found a weird trick like that to get past a specific block?

That's a great trick, honestly. My weird one is writing the whole thing in comic sans when it feels too serious.

Comic sans for serious stuff is lowkey genius.

My grad school thesis draft was in 14-point comic sans. It made the whole thing feel like a fun project instead of a soul crushing task. I still got the degree, so maybe it works.

Honestly, what's the weirdest line you've ever started with?
