The barista who called my protagonist boring, she was right
Last Tuesday I was sketching a scene at a café in Portland and the barista glanced over, said "your main character has zero rough edges," and honestly it stung for a second. She pointed out that my guy never makes a bad call, never says the wrong thing, just glides through the plot like a GPS rerouting around every pothole. Has anyone else had a stranger nail a flaw in your writing that you'd been blind to for months, and how did you fix it without losing the voice?
