A comment on my lip sync video made me rethink my whole setup

I posted a cover song video last month and someone pointed out the audio was 0.2 seconds off from my mouth movements... I brushed it off at first but then watched it back and yeah, it was super noticeable. Turns out my phone's built in mic has a slight delay when I record in my car. I switched to a cheap lav mic and started syncing manually in a free editor after 3 takes. Has anyone else caught timing issues in their own posts that you just didn't see before?

...and that's exactly how I found out my laptop's webcam has a built in delay too. I was doing a quick tutorial for my cousin on how to reconcile a bank statement and the audio was like a quarter second off. Drove me crazy until I realized I had to record audio separate on my phone and then line it up in Vegas Movie Studio. Still takes me like 4 or 5 tries to get it close.

Man, that audio lag thing makes me wonder if the webcam is actually filming in slow motion.

Ngl that sounds like such a pain. I've had a similar thing happen trying to record a quick how-to for my buddy on changing his car oil and the audio was a full second behind. Tried using the webcam software's built in recording and it was garbage, ended up just ditching the whole thing and doing a voiceover after with my phone. Honestly I think most webcams are secretly trash for anything real-time like that, they just fake it well enough for Zoom calls.
