Back in 2018, I had to pick between trusting my eyes or the audio in an old deep fake clip.

I chose the audio because the face looked smooth, but after rewatching it 3 times with the volume off, I caught the lip sync being off by half a second, so now I always mute first before checking facial details what method do you guys rely on first?

Mute it first too, honestly audio takes more effort to fake than most people realize.

Wait, you actually chose the AUDIO over the visual in 2018? That is wild to me. I mean, I get it, deep fakes back then were pretty rough with the skin texture and all but I always thought audio was the easiest thing to fake. Like, you can just record a different voice or use a text to speech program, but messing with pixels frame by frame is way harder. I still go for the eyes first, always. If the blinking looks weird or the lighting on their face doesn't match the room, I know something is up before even touching the sound. But hearing you say you muted it and caught the lip sync being off by half a second, that is actually a solid strategy. I might have to steal that trick from you.
