Blew $40 on a deep fake detector app that was just a filter
I downloaded this app called "RealCheck" after seeing it advertised on TikTok. It claimed to scan videos and tell you if they were AI generated. After paying $40 for the full version, I tested it on a clearly fake video of Tom Cruise and it said it was 95% real. Then I ran it on a real clip of my dog and it flagged it as fake. Total junk. Has anyone found a free tool online that actually works for spotting these things?

Wait has anyone actually tried training one of these detectors on a dataset of known deepfakes vs real stuff? I feel like that would tell you real quick if the algorithm was even capable of learning the difference. The fact that nobody seems to have done that makes me think these apps are just selling smoke.

Honestly it's just not that deep, people are acting like this is life or death over a $40 app.

You got scammed by a TikTok ad? Shocker. Those apps are all garbage because AI detection is basically a scam itself right now. Save your $40 for a round of drinks instead.

Yeah I read somewhere that these "AI detectors" are basically just random number generators with a fancy interface. Has anyone actually tested them against real AI output?
