Got tricked by a deep fake of my own dog barking at the mailman
Last Monday I was watching a video my wife sent me of our golden retriever barking at the mailman. It looked so real, even the fur moved right. But then I noticed the shadow on the grass was pointing the wrong way for 2pm in our backyard. I froze the video and zoomed in on his collar tag, and the numbers were all blurry. Turns out someone used AI to fake the whole thing for a prank. Has anyone else caught a deep fake by checking shadows or small details like that?

The fur moved right" is exactly the kind of detail that gets me now. I've started noticing more things feel slightly off everywhere, like how some auto-generated voicemail menus have that unnatural pause between words. It's like we're all learning to be detectives against machines that are getting too good at copying us.

That "learning to be detectives" part really hit home with me. I had a moment last week where I was on hold with a utility company and the automated voice said "please... hold... for... the... next... available... representative" and it was just off enough to make me wonder if it was a real person or a recording. It's creepy how we're all getting trained to spot these little glitches, like the fur thing or the weird pauses. My wife caught a spam call the other day because the voice said "I'm calling from your bank's security department" but said "bank" like it had two syllables too many. Makes you feel like you're living in a spy movie or something.

I used to think people were overreacting but now I'm noticing it too and it's kind of unsettling.
