Hit 500 deep fakes analyzed and only 8 were real
Everyone talks about how AI is making fakes impossible to catch but honestly after reviewing 500 videos this year only 8 of them were actually deep fakes. The rest were just poorly lit or compressed real footage that people mislabeled. Has anyone else noticed the panic is way bigger than the actual problem?

My buddy flagged a seagull as a deep fake last week.

That's a funny story, @colescott, but I actually see it a little different. I've watched a ton of deep fake analysis videos and real life is still way weirder than anything AI can cook up. Seagulls specifically are already kind of robotic looking with their jerky head movements and blank stares, so it's an easy mistake but the lighting and reflections on real feathers still throw me off in a way fake stuff can't. Your mileage may vary, but I'd bet money that bird was the real deal.
