My controversial take: We're wasting time on eye blink rates for deep fake detection
I've watched videos where the blinks are SPOT ON, so why do we still push this method?

Feels like tech always fights the last war.

Fighting the last war... yeah, that's tech for you. Always mopping up after the flood while ignoring the cracks in the dam.

So, I was just reading about this idea that @nguyen.kevin brought up. It's so true, tech companies always seem to be catching up to what already happened. I heard a podcast where they talked about how security fixes always come after a big hack, instead of before. It's like they're always one step behind. They see a problem, then build a solution for that exact problem, but by then, new problems have popped up. It feels reactive, not proactive. We need to think ahead more, but it's hard because tech moves so fast.

Remember that viral clip of the CEO last month? The one where he blinks exactly 4 times a minute, like a perfect robot. They trained the system on that old data. Now the new fakes just copy natural, messy human patterns. We fix one tiny tell and they just learn a new one. It's a game we can't win by just watching eyes.
