Ever have something like that happen to a friend? My buddy got a birthday text from his dad's old number years after he passed. It just said "thinking of you." Turned out the phone company recycled the number, but man, it messed him up for a while. That stuff really gets in your head.

That "messed him up for a while" part is so real, @evan_harris6. It's not just the shock of seeing the name pop up. It's the whole chain of feelings after. You get that split second of pure hope, then the crash of remembering, then the weird anger at the phone company. Did your buddy ever say if he replied to the text, or just stared at it? I'd probably just freeze.

God that "thinking of you" text would wreck me too. The number recycling thing is brutal because you don't get any warning, it just hits you out of nowhere like a ghost in your pocket. Hope your buddy's doing okay now, that kind of thing sticks with you longer than people realize.
