Overheard a teenager at Starbucks say "this video is so real it has to be true" and it hit me how bad things are getting

Is the difference really that wide when you think about whose pockets are behind the content now versus then? Back in the day, it was big corporations and ad companies pulling the strings on network news, and now it's the same thing with algorithms and influencer deals. Doesn't matter if it's a suit in a boardroom or a phone screen, the "truth" is still being sold to us either way, don't you think?

Is it really that different from believing everything our parents saw on TV news?

Feel you on this @josephbailey. Its wild how we look back at our parents just taking whatever the evening news said as gospel, but then we turn around and do the same thing with our favorite influencers or podcasts. Theres this comfort in trusting a voice that feels familiar, even if its just as filtered and biased as the old school TV broadcasts were. Solidarity on recognizing that cycle, man. Were all just trying to figure out who to listen to without getting totally played.
