Spent 2 hours trying to spot a deep fake that was actually just bad lighting
So I was watching this clip someone shared in a conspiracy group, you know the kind. It showed a politician saying something totally wild at a podium. I spent almost 2 hours zooming in on the lip movements and shadows around their face, convinced it was a deep fake. I even ran it through one of those free online detectors (which are pretty useless, honestly). Turns out, it was just really bad stage lighting from a small town hall meeting in Ohio last month. The audio was actually legit, just poorly recorded. Has anyone else wasted a bunch of time on a video that turned out to be a genuine, just cheaply produced clip?

Yeah, I've definitely been there. Spent a whole afternoon on a video that looked super fishy, only to find out it was just a cheap webcam from a county fair. It's wild how much time we can burn on stuff that's really just bad production quality.

Hang on, is this really something to get worked up over? It's just a bad video, not a scam or anything that actually costs you money. I mean, who hasn't clicked on a grainy, shaky video before? It happens all the time with amateur footage. Seems like a pretty minor thing to spend a whole afternoon on, honestly.

Buddy of mine once watched a whole blurry "Bigfoot" video for an hour.
