Maybe the fakes were warning us about real things nobody wanted to face yet.

Take that idea and run with it. Sometimes the people who are a little off, the ones who see things differently, they notice cracks in the foundation the rest of us are too busy or comfortable to look at. Maybe they're just speaking the truth out loud, and we call it crazy because we aren't ready to hear it.

Okay but what exactly were they warning about though? Like were some of those "conspiracy theory" types from 2016 the ones pointing at election interference and nobody wanted to hear it? Or the people who said certain drugs were way more addictive than the pharma companies let on and got called fearmongers until the opioid crisis hit? Which specific "fake" things actually turned out to be the real canary in the coal mine?
