Unpopular opinion: Looking at eye blinks is overrated for spotting deepfakes

Everyone in this group keeps saying check the blink rate, but I compared that method against looking at ear shadows on a bunch of those viral Tom Cruise fakes last month. The lighting on the ears was way more reliable. Blinks change depending on the person's mood or how long they've been filming, but shadows are physics. Has anyone else found a better tell than eyes?

Are people really getting tricked by deepfakes that often?

Feel for the people who do get fooled, honestly. My aunt almost fell for one of those fake celebrity giveaway videos on Facebook, she was so excited about winning a free car until my cousin pointed out the lips didn't match the words. It's scary how real some of them look now, especially for older folks who aren't as tech savvy.
