Watching a live debate in Denver made me see deep fakes in a new way

I was at a town hall event last year where a local politician gave a speech, and later that night a clip of him saying something he never did started going around. Seeing the real thing and then the fake side by side, I finally noticed how his mouth moved wrong on the 'th' sounds in the fake. What's the best way to explain that specific mouth movement glitch to someone who's new to this?

Ever notice how your tongue touches your teeth for a 'th' sound? The fake videos often mess that up, so the mouth looks like it's just blowing air or making an 'f' shape instead. It's a tiny detail, but once you see it, you can't unsee it.

That's a sharp catch, @brooket43. Do you think the people making these fakes just don't know, or is it too hard to animate right?

Wow, that's actually a great point. I never really thought about the tongue placement before, but now I'll be watching for it in every video. Makes you wonder if @colescott is right about it being a hard thing to animate.
