Bought a $200 'premium' subscription to a debate forum full of bots

I wasted $200 on a debate forum subscription last month thinking I'd get real arguments, but it turned out half the 'users' were just reposting the same three hot takes on loop. Has anyone else lost cash to a site that looked legit but was totally dead?

I read a study last year that said something like 30% of online forum activity is bot traffic now, especially on paid sites trying to look busy. The catch is those places usually won't let you browse without paying first, which is a huge red flag in hindsight. Glad more people are starting to check for active Discords or Reddit threads before handing over cash, that's solid advice.

Wait, did they at least have a free trial or demo page before you paid? I got suckered into a "philosophy lounge" once where the only live person was the mod who kept pasting links to his blog. @richard_young80 is right about checking communities first - I usually lurk for a week before handing over any cash, saved me from a few duds. Real debates are like finding a good coffee shop, you gotta smell the place before you sit down.

Got burned the same way with a "rapid debate" site last year. Next time check if the forum has an active Discord or Reddit community first where real people actually talk about it. I also test by posting something slightly controversial and seeing if i get any real replies or just automated nonsense within a few hours. Save your cash for sites that let you preview the discussion threads without paying.
