Found a moldy subreddit thread from 2022 that claimed boiling your phone in water fixed water damage
I stumbled on a post last week from some guy who swore he saved his iPhone by boiling it for 3 minutes. He said it dried out the internals faster than rice. People in the comments were actually thanking him. I checked the date - April 1, 2022 - and half the replies were serious. Anyone else seen this kind of dangerous advice spread around?

Rice actually works fine if you use silica gel packets instead, I've fixed two phones that way.

I saw a teardown video where they tested silica gel against rice and the gel actually absorbed way more moisture in the same amount of time.

Oh man, my buddy tried the rice trick with his iPhone after a lake incident. Left it in a ziplock bag full of rice for like two days. When he pulled it out, there was rice dust all in the charging port and the screen had this weird film. Ended up needing a whole new phone.
