Saw a guy trying to return a half-eaten sandwich at Walmart
I was grabbing a quick snack at the Walmart in Flagstaff last Tuesday and this dude walks up to customer service with a Subway sandwich that was clearly missing two bites. He tells the cashier it tasted weird and he wants his money back. The cashier just stares at him for a solid 5 seconds, then asks if he has the receipt. He pulls a crumpled one out of his pocket and she actually processes the return. I stood there watching like a moron for 2 minutes because I couldn't believe they took back a sandwich that was half gone. The hot takes on this sub are wild but nothing beats watching someone return food they already ate in real life. Has anyone else seen a return that made you question everything about common sense?

The Subway thing is wild but honestly... I once saw a lady return a Christmas tree in January because it "didn't smell right" and they took it back. She just left it leaning against the return counter with a few fallen needles on the floor. Still think about that sometimes.

Take it from someone who used to work customer service at a grocery store. That cashier was probably just tired of dealing with angry people. Store policy usually says no returns on opened food, but managers often let it slide to avoid a scene. I had a woman try to return a half-eaten rotisserie chicken once because she didn't like the seasoning, and my boss just refunded her to get her out the door. It's honestly the easiest way to shut them up, even if it makes zero sense. The sandwich guy probably knew the trick too, that's why he had the receipt ready.

Wait, do you think that manager refunding the half-eaten chicken was just being lazy, or did they actually think that was the right thing to do? Because that's a huge difference to me. If they just didn't want to argue, they're basically training people to act worse next time. But if they genuinely thought the customer was right, then the store's return policy is basically meaningless anyway. Which one do you think is more common, the lazy manager or the clueless one? I feel like if more managers just stood their ground, people would stop trying this stuff so much.

Wait if the store has a no return policy on opened food, why do you think managers keep bending the rule instead of just backing up the cashier and saying sorry, no refund? Ive worked retail too and we would just point to the sign and tell them to call corporate if they had a problem. Seems like these managers are creating a monster where people think they can return half eaten stuff anywhere, lol. Like that rotisserie chicken story would make me lose my mind if I was the next person in line watching that happen.
