Found a stat about nursing home costs that made me gasp

I was looking up places for my mom (she's in Ohio) and saw the average monthly cost for a semi-private room is now over $8,000. That's almost $100,000 a year. I had no idea it had gotten that high, I remember my grandma paying like $3,500 a month back in 2010. Has anyone else been shocked by a number like this when they started looking into facilities?

Honestly, that number stings worse than my last gout flare-up. Tbh, at these prices, I'd be better off paying some college kid to just order my mom's food delivery and check on her twice a day. Ngl, I might have to start saving now if I ever want to afford a spot next to her.

Used to think people were overreacting about senior care costs. Your breakdown changed my view entirely, it's basically a second mortgage payment.

The whole "pay a college kid" idea actually makes more sense than people think for lower care needs. Some states even have programs that help families pay for informal caregivers so you're not just going broke paying a facility. Might be worth looking into before writing off your gout flare up comparison as just dark humor haha.
