Got chewed out by a nurse for not asking about fall risks sooner

My mom had a dizzy spell last month and almost took a spill in her kitchen. The home health nurse flat out told me I was stupid for not having grab bars installed or even thinking about loose rugs. I called a contractor the next day and put in two grab bars by her shower and toilet for $180 total. Anybody else get a blunt wake up call from a medical professional that you ended up being grateful for?

$180 for two grab bars? That seems high. Around here you can get a decent set for $40 each and install them yourself in like twenty minutes. But I get it, you needed them done fast and didn't want to mess around with tools. The nurse called you stupid though? That's harsh. My mom's PT just gave me a sad disappointed look and handed me a pamphlet, which somehow felt worse.

That "sad disappointed look" might actually be worse than being called stupid, at least it gives you something to argue with. I got that look from a nurse once and spent the next hour trying to prove I wasn't that helpless.
