My mom's fall in her kitchen last Tuesday has me scrambling for home safety ideas
She slipped on a wet spot near the sink in her house in Tampa and bruised her hip pretty bad. We're looking at grab bars and non-slip mats, but I'm worried about the whole layout now. Has anyone done a full home safety check for a parent recently and have a good checklist to follow?

Tampa's humidity can make any floor slick near a sink. I get the worry after a fall, but a full layout overhaul sounds like a big jump from one wet spot. Grab bars and mats are a solid start, maybe just focus on the kitchen for now. Sometimes we fix the obvious thing and it's enough.

A friend's dad had a similar scare with a loose rug. They went with the grab bars first, but then found his bathroom floor got really slick after a shower. They ended up putting down those adhesive strips you can cut to size on the tub floor and a chair for the shower. The big find was moving his coffee maker off a high shelf so he didn't have to reach over the stove. Little changes added up.

Yeah, it's funny how one small fix shows you ten other little dangers you never saw. My grandma's place was like that, we put in a nightlight and then realized how many cords were running across walkways. It just snowballs once you start looking.
