Three calls to Medicare for a simple question on Mom's copay still had different answers each time

It took me over two weeks of calling and getting transferred to six different people before I finally got a straight answer about whether her Part D covers that blood pressure med she's been taking for years, has anyone else had this kind of runaround just to get a yes or no?

The whole Medicare system feels like they deliberately make it hard to get a straight answer so people just give up and pay whatever. My neighbor spent three months fighting a $500 bill they sent her for a flu shot that was supposed to be free, and she finally got it resolved by writing her congressman. That's the level of patience you need now just to get a simple copay question answered.

Three months for a flu shot bill? That is absolutely insane, I can't believe someone has to go through all that for something that's supposed to be free.

Man, I feel your frustration. What worked for me after getting three different answers about my dad's insulin coverage was to make one final call and ask for a supervisor right away. The regular reps are reading from scripts and don't always have the right info. Once I got a supervisor, I also took notes during the call with the date, time, and their employee ID number. Then I had them read back exactly what they told me before I hung up. That way if someone else gives a different answer later, you have proof of what was said. It still took about forty five minutes on hold, but at least I got one clear answer that actually stuck.
