Toured a 'luxury' senior living place in Phoenix last week and noticed all the call buttons were hidden behind curtains
I get that they want it to look like a hotel, but if my mom needs help in the bathroom she shouldnt have to play hide and seek with the emergency cord. Has anyone else seen this weird design choice in retirement communities?

Huh, am I the only one who thinks having them hidden actually makes sense? If I’m trying to relax in a fancy place, I don’t want a big red cord staring at me all day.

Did your mom end up going with that place or did you find somewhere better? We had the same issue when looking at places for my dad but ended up going with a smaller community that had the pull cords right next to the toilet where theyre actually useful.

Yeah, the pull cord placement thing is a huge deal. I actually just read an article about how a lot of these facilities put them in weird spots, like behind the bed where an old person can't reach if they fall. My mom ended up at a place that has them on a long strap that hangs down near the floor by the toilet, so if she slips getting up she can grab it. Made a big difference in her comfort level.
