Tried a medication dispenser vs. a pill organizer for my dad - clear winner here
I spent 6 months using a basic weekly pill organizer for my 82 year old dad. He's pretty sharp but kept forgetting if he took his afternoon meds. Switched to a automatic dispenser that locks and beeps at the right time. It was $130 but saved us from 3 close calls where he almost double dosed his blood pressure meds. The organizer was cheaper but the dispenser gives me peace of mind since it texts me if he misses a dose. Has anyone else had luck with those smart bottle caps instead?

I mean, I saw something about those smart bottle caps on a senior care forum a while back. Someone said they work okay but the batteries die pretty fast and the app can be glitchy. For your dad's situation, I'd stick with the dispenser since it texts you, that's way more reliable than depending on a cap that might just stop working randomly. The double dosing scare is real, my neighbor's mom had the same issue with her heart meds before they switched to a locked dispenser. idk, maybe it's just me but I'd rather pay more for something that actually prevents mistakes than save money on something that might let one slip through.

Right there with you, that locked dispenser is a lifesaver... my dad did the exact same thing with his blood pressure meds, double dosed three times before we caught on. We tried the pill organizer route first too and it just didn't work for him, he'd get confused on which day it was or forget if he already took the afternoon ones. The beeping and locking feature is what really sold me, it stops him from grabbing the pills on his own when he's not thinking straight. And yeah, I looked into those smart caps but read too many reviews about them losing connection or the battery dying mid month... not worth the gamble when it's heart medication. The text alerts are the real deal, gives me actual sleep at night knowing if he misses a dose I'll know within an hour. Honestly, I'd pay double that $130 just for the peace of mind we got.
