Was dead set against assisted living until I saw the numbers for 24/7 in-home care
I spent a solid 6 months arguing with my siblings that we could keep Dad at home. Did the math after Mom had a fall last March and it came out to around $6,200 a month for decent round the clock care. The assisted living place we toured runs $4,800 all in including meals and med management. It stung to admit I was wrong but the spreadsheet didn't lie. Anyone else have family members who won't even look at the cost breakdown?

I read a report recently saying assisted living costs went up like 6% last year, so those numbers you found might not hold forever. That spreadsheet math is hard to argue with though, especially when you factor in things like meal prep and laundry that add up fast. It took my cousin showing me a similar breakdown to finally stop fighting about what was best for my aunt.

Spreadsheets don't care about pride... I learned that one the hard way too.

Jumped into that same spreadsheet trap myself a few months back. Laid out all the numbers for my dad and he still tried to argue until I showed him the total for laundry and meal services alone. Numbers don't lie, but man people will try to fight them anyway.
