I used to think those 'smart' water bottles were just overpriced junk
About a year ago, my buddy got one that glows when you need to drink. I thought it was dumb, but he kept using it. Fast forward to last month, I saw him again and he actually drinks way more water now, like he fills the thing three times a day. He said the little light reminder just got him into a habit without him thinking about it. It made me look around, and now I see them everywhere at the gym, not just with tech people. The change seems to be that they went from a flashy gadget to something that actually helps build a simple habit. I'm still not sold on paying $80 for a bottle, but the core idea of a gentle nudge might stick around. Has anyone else had a friend who totally changed a habit because of one of these things?

Honestly it's the same with my phone's bedtime reminder... that little chime is the only reason I actually go to bed before midnight most nights. We're surrounded by so much stuff screaming for our attention that a quiet, simple signal cuts right through. It's funny how the dumbest little tech can end up being the thing that finally gets you to do the basic stuff you already know you should do.

It's the same with those step counters. My mom got a basic one that just buzzes at 10,000 steps. She went from barely moving after work to taking the dog on an extra loop every evening, just to shut the thing up. The tech isn't the point, it's the little poke that breaks your autopilot. We're bad at remembering the simple stuff. A flashing light or a buzz cuts through the noise.
