Just realized the whole 'quiet luxury' trend is actually just rich people being boring
I was all set to hate on this whole quiet luxury thing as just another instagram fad that would die in 6 months. But then I started noticing how much longer my cheap stuff lasts when I buy the simple, well-made version instead of the flashy one. My buddy who drives a beat-up 90s truck but owns 3 rental properties told me he learned this lesson 20 years ago. The numbers don't lie either... my $40 pair of boots from 2018 finally wore out while my friend's $200 plain boots are still going strong. Still think the whole vibe is kinda pretentious but the idea of buying once and crying once has some real weight to it. Has anyone else shifted their thinking on this after seeing how cheap fast fashion falls apart compared to basic quality stuff?

Does spending more just mean you take better care of it?

Ugh @hannah_west39 this hits home honestly. I've seen people drop insane money on stuff but treat it like garbage, meanwhile someone with a budget watch can keep it running for ten years just by wiping it down now and then lol. It really comes down to how much you actually care about the thing you bought, not the price tag.

Money doesn't buy common sense, that's for sure. My neighbor's kid has a ten dollar watch he's had since middle school, just takes the battery out when it goes flat and keeps it in a drawer. Meanwhile I've cleaned houses where people throw thousand dollar handbags on the floor like they're rags. Price tags don't teach respect for things.
