Shoutout to the guy who told me to try a vertical garden setup

I was sure it was just a pretty fad for influencers, but after my basil and cherry tomatoes thrived all summer on my tiny apartment balcony in Portland, I'm convinced. The specific 'GreenStalk' planter I used made watering so simple, and the yield was way bigger than my old pots. Has anyone else had a small-space garden win that changed their mind?

My old landlord in Seattle banned any pots on the ground. I got a shoe organizer, the fabric kind with pockets, and hung it on a wall. Grew a full salad's worth of lettuce in those pockets for two years.

Wait, isn't lettuce a cool weather crop though?

That shoe organizer trick from kellygrant is pure genius for renters. Vertical gardening really is a game changer when you have no floor space. My own win was with a cheap metal gutter system screwed to a fence. Grew enough strawberries to make my neighbors jealous. It proved you don't need a fancy planter to get results, just some good sun and a clever setup. The yield from just a few feet of vertical space still blows my mind.
