TIL my "quick 15 minute" gutter fix turned into a 6 hour nightmare with a rusted downspout

Ended up having to cut out a 4-foot section of gutter and rebuild it from scratch because the old screws were seized solid, has anyone else had a simple home repair blow up like that?

Six hours for gutters? That's rough, man. I had a similar thing happen with a toilet flapper last year. Thought it'd be a ten minute swap (you know, pop the old one off, clip the new one on) but the supply line nut was fused to the fill valve with what looked like decades of mineral crust. Ended up having to hack through the old plastic with a hacksaw blade and then spent another hour trying to find a metric adapter at three different hardware stores. Rusty screws are just the devil's way of telling you you're not going anywhere for the afternoon.

Hold on, I gotta push back a little here lol. Six hours for gutters is way different than a toilet flapper because gutters involve ladders, heights, and usually a whole system, not just one little part. @stella_scott96 didn't mention her shower head taking that long, so I'm betting a pro would've had those gutters done in under two hours with the right tools.

Wait, you seriously dealt with that for a whole toilet flapper? I used to think those were easy jobs until I had a similar nightmare with a shower head. This totally changed my mind about simple fixes!
