Vent: My friend in Denver swore by using a 3-second rule for Instagram Reels

Honestly, I tried it for a week and my views jumped by 40%. Is this just a lucky hack or a real shift in the algorithm?

Whoa, that's wild. The 3-second rule is definitely a thing now. The algorithm seems to really watch for that initial hold time, so if people stick around, it pushes the reel out more. Your jump in views proves it's not just luck.

Paige is right that shares and saves matter more than I thought at first. What worked for me is focusing on getting that first 3 seconds tight then adding a strong hook text overlay to encourage a share or save. Gets both metrics working together.

Totally, that algorithm is no joke.

But what about all the posts that blow up with almost no watch time? I've seen stuff go viral that people swipe away from instantly. It feels like the algorithm cares more about shares and saves than just holding the screen. Maybe that initial grab is just one piece of a bigger puzzle.

Doubt it's that deep honestly. I've seen random clips get millions of views with zero effort put into the first few seconds. @felixlane makes a good point - shares and saves seem to carry way more weight than just holding someone's attention for a couple of seconds. Your view bump could just be a fluke or the algorithm testing your content on different audiences that day.
