Went from taping VHS movies to streaming everything in under 20 years

I remember sitting on the floor in 1999 trying to record a movie off HBO without catching the schedule glitch that cut off the ending. Now my kids just scroll through 4 apps without even thinking about it. Does anyone else feel like we lost something special with that instant access, or is it just me getting old?

Read a study that said our brains literally form fewer connections when we don't have to wait or work for things.

Oh man, you're not wrong about the schedule glitch thing. But I gotta push back a little. That feeling of "losing something special" is real, but it's not about the movies themselves. It's about the ritual. The anticipation. Having to wait for something made you appreciate it more. Now everything's a blur. Your kids don't have that same mental map of where to find things or the patience to sit through commercials. That's a skill we're losing. Not the movies.

@alice928 that whole "mental map" thing is EXACTLY what I've been trying to put into words. It's not just movies either - I see it everywhere now. People can't remember directions without GPS, they get lost in a grocery store that rearranged the aisles. We're outsourcing all that natural pattern recognition to algorithms and losing the muscle.
