Appreciation post: My $120 fabric scissors were the best and worst buy I ever made

I always used cheap scissors from the craft store for my projects, thinking the fancy ones were a waste. Last year, I finally spent about $120 on a pair of professional fabric shears after my cheap pair totally shredded the edge of some silk I was working with. The first cut with the new ones was like magic, so clean and easy. But then I made a huge mistake. I used them to cut a paper pattern just once, and now they don't cut fabric right at all. I feel so dumb because the whole point was to keep them just for fabric. I had to buy another pair, which really hurt my budget. Has anyone else ruined a good tool by using it for the wrong job and found a way to fix the blades?

I used my fabric shears on a pizza box once, so I feel your pain lol.

My old sewing teacher swore by that rule and I thought she was nuts. After wrecking a pair of Ginghers on some cardboard, I get it now. A pro sharpener fixed mine for way less than a new pair.

Honestly, how much did the sharpener cost you?
