Hit a cool discovery about denim from the 1800s

Was reading this old textile trade journal from 2023 and found out that original Levi's jeans from the 1890s had a single back pocket. That blew my mind since today we think two back pockets are standard on every pair. Has anyone else run into weird old design details that got totally lost over time?

@theas28 nailed it. It's wild how fast stuff like that becomes "standard" without us even questioning it. Same thing with phone chargers - we all just accepted having a dozen different cables for years until USB-C finally showed up and made everyone wonder why we put up with the mess for so long.

Dont get me wrong, its a COOL little fact and I get why people find it interesting, but do we really need to act like this is some huge deep thing about society, @theas28? They just swapped a pocket design, it wasnt some massive conspiracy to trick us into thinking jeans have always been two pockets. Companies experiment with stuff all the time, some sticks and some doesnt. The single pocket didnt last because people wanted more room, simple as that. End of story. Not everything needs this big philosophical breakdown about how we "accept things as normal." Sometimes a pocket is just a pocket.

Isn't it wild how much we just accept as normal?
