Rant: I tried using a heat gun to distress some denim and it went way too far
I was working on a pair of jeans in my garage, aiming for a few subtle worn spots, but the fabric basically melted and tore in a huge patch after about 30 seconds. Now I've got this weird, stiff hole that looks more like a burn than vintage wear. Has anyone found a better way to get that authentic faded look without wrecking the material?

Try a coarse sandpaper instead, just rub it over the seams and pockets. It takes a bit of elbow grease but you get way more control. I messed up a jacket with a knife before I learned that.

Yeah, the heat gun is brutal for that. My buddy did the exact same thing and ended up with a pair of crispy shorts.
