Unpopular opinion: I saw a dress in a New York shop window last week that made me rethink everything about pockets
Honestly, it was a beautiful silk gown with these huge, structured side pockets that didn't ruin the line at all. Three years ago I would have said pockets ruin formal wear, but this designer proved me wrong. Has anyone else seen a design that changed a long-held rule for you?

Rethink everything about pockets" is a MOOD. I once saw a suit with pockets that actually looked good and my whole world view cracked. Guess we were all just wearing bad pockets this whole time.

Yeah, it's all in the cut and the fabric weight. A heavy silk or a lined wool can handle a real pocket without getting lumpy. I had a tailor add pockets to a formal skirt once and she used a lighter lining inside the pocket bag so it wouldn't pull. Totally get what @finley_shah64 means about bad pockets skewing our view. What was the brand of that New York dress? I'd love to see how they built those pockets in.

My cousin's wedding last year had a bridesmaid dress with hidden pockets in the side seams. I kept my phone and lip gloss in there all night and the skirt still flowed perfectly. It completely changed my mind about fancy dresses being useless. Now I get mad at any dress that doesn't have them. Good pockets are a game changer.
