I finally asked a landscaper why he hates vinyl fences

He told me he's seen too many get brittle and crack in under 5 years in our hot sun, especially the cheaper ones. It made me think about what we're really selling when we push a certain material. Do you guys get many calls to replace newer vinyl fences?

Maybe the cracking is overblown, since plenty of vinyl fences here look fine after a decade. @paige166 might be seeing the worst cases. It probably depends more on the install and the specific brand.

Yeah, that "brittle and crack" part is so true.

That "brittle and crack" line really sticks with you... I have to ask, when they fail that fast, is it always the cheap stuff or are the expensive vinyl brands having the same problem in the heat? It makes you wonder if the material itself just can't handle certain climates long-term, no matter what you pay for it.

Wait, under five years? That's wild, and paige166 is right about the cracking.
