Found out old mining towns beat beach resorts for me

Most vacationers go for sunny coasts, but I get more from historic mining spots. The stories from locals and untouched landscapes are priceless. Had a blast hiking through an old ghost town last fall.

But like, is it really better than a beach? What do you do when it's raining out there, just stare at some rusty old equipment?

Well, you can explore old mine shafts inside... it's spooky and cool.

Nah, when it rains there's still stuff like mine tours indoors.

Last summer, I got lost on a trail near an abandoned silver mine in Colorado. Spent an hour watching bats flutter out of a shaft at dusk, which was way cooler than any sunset over ocean water. The air had this weird metallic smell from old tailings piles. Ended up chatting with a park ranger who told me about a cave-in from the 1920s.
