Stumbled upon a secret hot spring while hiking in Taiwan... and things got awkward fast.
I was exploring a less traveled trail near Taroko Gorge with a couple friends... we heard about this hidden hot spring from a sketchy map. After a tough climb, we found it, but there was already a group of locals there having a small picnic. They invited us to join, which was nice, but none of us spoke much Mandarin beyond hello and thank you. I tried to gesture that the water was hot, but I accidentally splashed someone while pointing... everyone went quiet for a second before bursting out laughing. We ended up sharing their snacks, but I kept fumbling with the chopsticks and dropped food all over. It was hilarious but also kind of embarrassing, especially since we were intruding on their spot. Has anyone else had a funny mix-up like this at a place not many people know about? Looking for tips on how to handle these surprise social moments without feeling like a total outsider.
